ALTAR GUILD ANNUAL REPORT 2024
In the Episcopal Church, liturgical colors are used to symbolize the themes and theological emphases of different seasons and occasions in the church year. These colors are reflected in the vestments worn by our clergy, altar hangings, and other church decorations. If you have ever wondered what these colors mean here is a brief overview:
Purple: Penitence, preparation, royalty – used during Advent and Lent
Red: Holy Spirit, fire, the blood of Christ and martyrs – used for Holy Week, Pentecost, St. Andrews Day, Ordination
Green: Color of living things and God’s creation – used for Epiphany and the Ordinary Time after Pentecost
Blue: Hope and the Virgin Mary – used also during Advent as an alternative to purple
White: Joy, purity truth and the glory of Christ – used during Christmas, Easter, major feast days, baptisms, weddings, funerals
The Altar Guild members are responsible for ensuring that the color changes are made for the various seasons and church events along with the preparation and set up for each and every service throughout the year.
This year we welcomed the addition of Pamela Craven to our dedicated group. Joy Washbrook has had to step back for a while and we hope to have her rejoin us in the New Year. The other members of the Altar Guild include Bonnie and Jackie Deitz, Carrie Caldwell, Barb Rush and Ron and Pam Monterosso.
Anyone can be a member of the Altar Guild, no experience is needed, and training will be provided. If interested in learning more about our colors and how we prepare for worship service please contact any member of the Altar Guild.
Respectfully submitted,
Pamela Lindgren Monterosso
Flower Committee 2024
The Flower Committee is a branch of the Altar Guild set up to provide flowers for the Sunday services. The Flower Committee collects donations from parishioners near and far honoring their passed loved ones with the Memorial Flowers displayed on the Altar each week. The Altar Guild uses some of these funds to buy candles, linens, repair the needlepoint kneelers and other necessaries.
Our Flower Committee worked as usual with members Donna Blackburn, Ann Barnett, Meg Carman, Palmer Marrin and Nancy Vietor arranging flowers, and Kathy Malmquist who is our faithful manager of the donor records.
Our Christmas decorating could not happen without Carl and Kathy Malmquist, Michael Brady, Jackie Dietz, Carlos Mullen, Meg Carman, and Sara and William Barrington.
I want to thank the parishioners who let us pick flowers from their gardens.
Many thanks to everyone for their time and creativity, it is a pleasure working with you all.
We welcome anyone interested in flowers, whether you have experience or not to come join our flowery mission!
Respectfully submitted,
Palmer Marrin
Flower Committee Chairperson
